Visiting Davao City

This is according to a forumer in PEX.

For tourists, you can take the taxi (either aircon or non-aircon, their flag downs and per km rates are different; of course, non-air is cheaper). Please note that when taking a cab at night, I’d suggest that you just take the non-airconditioned cabs since traffic is normally very light to non-existent after 7:30-8pm everywhere and it gets cooler since you’re close to the sea (basically, not much smog at night) which negates the need for airconditioning.

Taxi drivers are honest and even give you the exact change and dont choose their passengers. There are actually too many cabs in davao in my opinion.

Rule of thumb in Davao is that you can basically get anywhere within the city (downtown) within 10-20 mins in a cab.

What to see and do in Davao?

Go to Samal Island: Either take a day trip or overnight stay in Pearl Farm, dat trip to Paradise or other modest beaches on the island. http://www.pearlfarmresort.com/home.shtml

Go to Eden Nature Park: Similar to Tagaytay with the cool breeze and the view of Davao Gulf. http://www.edennaturepark.com.ph

Go to the Crocodile Park: http://www.davaocrocodilepark.com/

Go to Philippine Eagle Center: http://www.philippineeagle.org/

Go to Malagos Garden Resort (dont know the website but you can google it)

Also, for dining choices, here are some restaurant suggestions: SarrungBanggi, Harana, Bistro, Bigby’s, AhFat, BluGre Cafe, Claude’s, Tsuru, Colasa’s, Dimsum Diner, Mandarin, Jack’s Ridge, etc.

Those restaurants run the gauntlet between upscale to casual dining and from local to international fare.

Food is fresh, delicious and relatively cheap in Davao! Try to eat as much steak and seafood (Tuna!!!) And be sure to take home pomelo, tuna or durian as pasalubong.

Lastly, IT IS SAFE in Davao City. Mayor Duterte has made that possible. All the news you hear about problems is so far away from downtown Davao. That’s because, Davao City is dubbed as the biggest city in the world in terms of land area and those problems are from the outer parts of the city away from tourists and businesses.

Of course, that being said, petty theft / robbery is unavoidable around squatter areas (which is pretty much the same anywhere in the country)
